Appointment of Non- Executive Director to the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT)

The Non-Executive appointment of Prof David Jones as Non-Executive Director to the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT) commences from 20th March 2017 for a maximum period of 4 years.

This appointment carries a time commitment of 3 days per week and attracts an annual remuneration of £7,960.

  1. The BHSCT is one of five HSC Trusts established in 2007 responsible for the delivery of responsive and effective health and care services and for the ownership and management of hospitals and other establishments and facilities.  Each HSC Trust in Northern Ireland is managed directly by a Board of Directors which has corporate responsibility for its operation.  The Board is made up of five executive Directors and seven non-executive directors and a non-executive Chair.  Executive Directors and non-executive Directors are full and equal members of the Board.
  2. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Prof Jones declared that he has not engaged in any political activity.
  3. Prof David Jones, Non-Executive Director is a Professor of Biomaterial Science at Queen’s University (QUB) Belfast and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students.  He gained a BSc in Pharmacy, a PhD in Pharmaceutics and a DSc. from QUB.  In 2014 he gained a BA in Mathematics and Statistics from the Open University.  He registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland in 1989 and has been a lecturer in Pharmaceutics and held the position of Head of Formulations at Norbrook Industries Limited (NI). Since 1999 he holds a personal Chair (in Biomaterial Sciences) at the School of Pharmacy, QUB.
  4. Professor Jones is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Statistician and a Chartered Chemist and is an elected Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the Institution of Engineers in Ireland.  He is the Editor of the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology and is a previous holder of a Royal Society Industrial Fellowship.
