The RQIA Expert Review Team has identified areas of good practice but has made 20 recommendations that are intended to strengthen the governance arrangements across independent hospitals and hospices in Northern Ireland.
The Department is pleased to learn that the independent sector has moved rapidly since the fieldwork was completed to develop and improve upon their governance systems. However, there is still more work to do. It is crucial that the highest levels of effective governance are observed in the independent sector.
Departmental officials will now examine the report in detail and consider the position on each of the recommendations. For those recommendations that are accepted, the Department will draw up an implementation action plan.
The report can be found on the RQIA website.
