Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related Deaths – June 2019 update

The Department of Health today published its latest update on the ongoing work to implement the recommendations of the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related deaths (IHRD).
The progress report details how working groups are addressing key areas including duty of candour and education and training. A number of the inquiry recommendations are complex and require considerable research, consultation and reflection. A number also require legislation which will require a Minister and legislature.
The next update will be mid-October when it is hoped there will be the beginning of a steady stream of circulars being issued within the health service detailing how individual recommendations should be implemented.

- The IHRD Implementation Programme is comprised of nine workstreams and 200 people from different backgrounds working through the recommendations arising from the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia-Related Deaths (IHRD).
