Celebrating 75 years of the Health Service

This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our NHS. It is a chance for us to pay tribute to staff working right across the health and social care system, in all settings, for their ongoing commitment, resilience and dedicated professionalism.

Activities and events will be taking place across the UK to mark this momentous occasion, including here in Northern Ireland.

Special UK-wide Parkruns will be held, the George Cross medal is on display in the Ulster Museum, and many buildings, historic monuments and other high profile sites across Northern Ireland will ‘light up’ blue on the evening of 5 July, the date marking 75 years of NHS service.

Senior leaders in the Department of Health are also sharing their own personal and professional reflections of the health service through our blog series, published below.

These and other pages will be updated throughout the year, so please stay tuned.
